Welcome back for a New Season with Highpoint Skate Club!


We are pleased to share a new feature on our website - you can now register online.


For those who would prefer to register in person, we will still be holding our regular registration events. We will be in the Arena Lobby on Thurs. Sept. 12th & 19th from 7:00-9:00pm

Our Skating Programs will begin in October. Our first night of CANskate will be on October the 10th from 6-7. STARskate will begin Monday October 7th from 4-6.

2012/2013 Season

Newsletter October 2012


Welcome Skaters and Families to our 2012/2013 skating season. We are excited to get skating. This year we welcome two new Coaches to our club

Janice Alguire and Danielle VanAlstine.

Danielle was a skater in our club. She loves to skate and has shown great leadership skills as a Program Assistant over the years. She took the initiative to get her NCCP with Skate Canada. We are happy to have her coaching with us!

Janice will be coaching STARskate this year. Janice's qualifications include: Gold Figure, Gold Skills, Gold Freeskate, Gold Dances, Variation Dance, Junior Competitive Dance. Level Three Theory. Level Three Technical. Level Two Certefied Coach. She has a positive team approach to coaching. We are pleased to have her at Highpoint.


Geoff will be returning as our Partner Coach this year


N.B.  We will be holding a parent meeting to discuss what this season has in store for us. Thurs Nov 1. This meeting will be during the skating lessons

 

  • Just a reminder ... Skating programs are always cancelled when School Buses are cancelled due to weather conditions regardless of weather improvement.

 

FUNDRAISING:

Highpoint Skate Club is a non-profit organization and incurs additional operating & program costs not covered by registration. Fundraising is becoming more critical and we really need everyone to participate to ensure the campaigns are successful.

Gold Canyon Candle Sales will begin soon. Tell all your friends and family about these amazing candles and collect your orders. Forms and money are due back November 22nd just in time for Christmas!


Our Programs

CANskate:

Skate Canada has a Helmet rule for CANskate. The rule specifies that CANskate participants must wear a CSA approved Hockey Helmet.

Danielle will have program assistants helping coach. Our program assistants have done a coaching training program and are experienced in all levels of development for CANskate.

 

    •    Skaters may use Dressing Room 6 to get ready for skating.

 

  STARskate:

    •  Weskate will be hosted by Ripley, January 12 & 13.

 

 High Test Days  -  Dec. 9th in Harriston  -  Jan.27th in Mount Forest   -  Mar.24th in Palmerston

Low Test Day - TBA

Highpoint Skate Club, sanctioned by Skate Canada, is a small club that provides quality skating programs for the children and youth in our community. Our programs empower children and youth by teaching them new skating skills and giving them the opportunitg to master their skills. They are making new friendships and developing socially. We need skaters to help us grow!

STARskate Moves to Mondays and Thursdays

We are changing our STARskate times from Tuesday 4-6 to Monday 4-6. Thursdays remain unchanged.


Highpoint Skate Club Welcomes Janice Alguire as our new Head Coach.


Janice's qualifications include :

* Gold Figure, Gold Skills, Gold Freeskate, Gold Dances, Variation Dance, Junior Competetive Dance.

* Level Three Theory

* Level Three Technical

* Level Two Certified Caoch

 

She is experienced in Coaching CANskate, STARskate and Adults.

She has Coached competitive skaters at sub-sectional, sectional and all Ontario competitions.

 

Janice has trained under world renowned coaches Louis Stong and Sandra Bezic.

 

She has a positive team approach to Coaching and we are pleased to have her at Highpoint.

  Time flies when you're having fun! By the end of this month we'll be half way through our Skating Programs. If you know anyone interested in joining, it's not too late. We will be having a mid-season registration night Dec.22nd.

Just before we break for Christmas Holidays we will have our 50/50 draw. Each Skater receives 1 book of tickets for the draw, $40/book of tickets.

Pick up your tickets Dec.8th. All money is due up front when you pick up your tickets.

Dec.27th &29th will be our Christmas Break - no skating programs.

  • Skating programs are always cancelled when school buses are cancelled due to weather conditions regardless of  weather improvement.

More community partners have generously donated to our skate club.

All donations received go towards ice time and coaching.

& Jason Haist from Coldwell Banker donated a $50 gift card for Casa Del Gelato in Orangeville, which we will put towards our prize table at our end of season Ice Show.

Fundraising is a huge part of our clubs continued operation. We have successfully completed both the Chocolate Almond sales and Gold Canyon Candle sales. With your help, we raised $934.14 selling Chocolate Almonds & $375.00 selling Candles which includes our Gold Canyon Candle Consultant, Deb's, profits. Thank you Deb! One of our Intermediate skaters, Jamie Troch and her family sold 7 cases of Almonds! Awesome!

        • for the safety of all the skaters on the ice, we will be closing the rink (boards) door.

The Weskate Competition is Feb.4th&5th. Our clubs entries must be submitted to Mount Forest by Dec.9th. your competition fees will need to be paid no later than Thursday Dec.8th.

High Test Days - Sun. Jan.13th in Palmerston

- Sun. Mar.25th hosted by ripley at Lucknow Arena

Low Test Day - Tues. Dec.13th @ 5pm - skaters order of list and tests will be posted that night so come early to see your time. Test fees will also be collected that night.

Chocolate Almonds. You can pick up your Chocolate Almonds Thurs. Oct. 25th
Each skater receives one case, $60/case. families with 2 or more skaters receive a case and a half, $90/case and a half. All money is due up front when you pick up your almonds.

Gold Canyon Candle Sales will begin November 3rd. Tell all your friends and family about these amazing candles and collect your orders. Forms and money are due back November 17th just in time for christmas!

CanSkate:
  • Skate Canada has issued a new Helmet rule for CanSkate. The rule specifies that CanSkate participants must wear a CSA approved Hockey Helmet. See the information package posted on our board to read more information.
  • Miranda will have program assistants helping coach. Our coaching assistants have done a coaching training program and are experienced in all levels of development for CanSkate.

StarSkate:

Sun. Jan. 13th in Palmerston
    Sun. Mar. 25th hosted by Ripley at Lucknow arena
(new this year from COS - there are no pulls once registered for high tests)

  • Low Test Day -  Tues. Nov 29th, 5pm
(skaters order of list and tests will be posted that night so come early to see your time)

We are proud to announce that Highpoint Skate Club won the second place trophy last year at our area competition, WESKATE.  It will be placed in our new display case at the arena!

           FUNDRAISING:


We will be running 3 campaigns this year.

Chocolate Almond sales have been a great success!  Thank you to every family for participating and supporting our skater(s). We still have 5 cases of Almonds to sell, if you can sell them please see Kara or LeeAnne to pick them up.

 

 

Our Next Campaign is 50/50 Ticket sales.

Youcan pick up your Ticket books Thursday Dec.2nd. Each skater receives a book with 20 tickets @ $2.00 a ticket to sell.  Draw to be held Dec.23rd.

The $40.00 per book is due on Dec.2nd. when tickets are received.

 

A pair of RAPTORS Tickets have been donated to our club by a skater’s parent.

We will be raffling them off beginning in December.

(See an executive member to purchase a ticket)

Just $2.00 gets you a chance to see the Toronto Raptors play Jan.14th!

Draw will be held at our Family Skate Dec.23rd.

Miranda is doing a terrific job coaching our skaters!  If you have any questions for her you may speak to Kara or meet briefly with Miranda after your child’s skating session.



CanSkate:

 

If you are interested in joining us at WestSkate Jan.29th & 30th please speak to Bev DaCruz or Kara to find out more.

You may notice lots of activities happening out on the ice during CanSkate…these activities are enhancing the program and Miranda is providing a unique and interesting way to learn Skating skills.

Please visit our website to see program supplies needed.

Safety – If your child wears a helmet please ensure it is properly fitted at all times.


If you are interested in ordering a T-Shirt from Skate Canada (cost $10.00) Let Kara know.

 

StarSkate:

 

Bev needs your entries for WestSkate by Thursday Nov.18th.

 

Low Test Day – Thursday Nov.25th

Starts at 7:00…a list of skaters and times will be posted that night.

(remember to dress appropriately – ask Miranda if you are unsure)

 

High Test Days –

Sat.Dec.11th – Kincardine

Sun.Feb.27th – Mount Forest

(Miranda will be unavailable this day Jeff will fill in if needed)

Sat.Mar.19th – Durham

 

New Jackets are coming!  You should be able to order them soon.

 

 


  This season our Ice Show will be…


“A TRIBUTE TO BROADWAY”!
